Shouldn’t I expect better from Nielsen?

The image below is from an article on Nielsen, but that’s not important.  I can’t make any sense whatsoever of this chart.

I’m stumped because the gray area is for under 24, the blue is for under 15 and the light blue is for under 15.  Huh?  I was hoping for a legend, but nope, there isn’t one.

There’s only one word to describe this chart: AWFUL!

  1. Yes there is something wrong with the chart, I wrote about it to person who posts on Nilsen blog.

The research is interesting, I have to find similar data for Russia.

  2. Yep, this has happened to me while trying to eliminate chart junk.
Fortunately, the chart's title helps a bit in sorting out what the correct labels would be: gray->24yo, light blue-<15yo, blue-between 15 and 24 yo.
Too bad this chart got through Nielsen's content editor(s).

  3. And the 20% slice is clearly bigger than the 26% slice to add to the horrors of this one.

What can be done to eradicate pies from the Viz world!!!
