Tableau Tip Tuesday: 82 Charts in 80 Minutes
Monday, I ran a free Tableau Zen Master Tips & Tricks webinar. I changed it from the previous webinars I ran last year; this time I focused on charts. I wanted to see how long it would take me to build 82 charts. It took a little under 80 minutes. This was a rehearsal of sorts for the Tableau Speed Charting session Jeff Shaffer and I are running at TC18.

Join us at #RunData16!
For the past few Tableau Conferences, members of the Tableau Community have come together for some early morning running. Last year, as you can see above, we had an incredible turnout and we expect this year to be much more of the same.
Details:
- When: 5:30am Mon, Tue, Wed
- Where: Four Seasons
- Distances: 5K and 10K (easy enough to make longer or shorter if you'd like)
- Run leaders: Eva Murray, Paul Chapman, Me

Yes, a 5:30am start time is early, but in our experience, you HAVE TO start this early if you want time to make the keynotes. Running people are a weird bunch anyway, so 5:30 is never too early for us!
The run leaders will have high visibility bibs and torches for everyone's safety. If you have lights, bring them along. I've run these routes many times and it's a beautiful trail along the river. There are always tons of runners out and about.
NOTE: You may see a meetup list on the conference website, but it doesn't start until 6:30. If you go to that one, you have very, very little chance of making the keynotes. Plus, most of the runners will be at our run. And we'll be done before they even start!
Tableau has informed us that they will not be supporting us this year. However, keep up with the #RunData16 hashtag on Twitter for all of the latest information. See you in Austin!

Makeover Monday: From WTF to Wow!
Tonight Eric Hannell invited me to speak at the data+visual meetup he runs here in London about Makeover Monday. I’ve been doing makeovers since my very first blog post in August 2009, yet this was the first time I’ve actually spoken about the project, why I do it, the goals, why Andy Cotgreave and I joined forces, and the impact it’s having on the data visualisation community.
This meetup group isn’t a Tableau meetup; it’s about data visualisation, making it great way to meet many new people. For nearly everyone, this was their first exposure to Makeover Monday and, even for many, their first data viz meetup. My favorite part was, of course, the Q&A. There were questions about how decide what to makeover, how we make design choices, my favorite vizzes, etc. I think there may even be some new participants this week, despite it being a bank holiday on Monday.
